Just because your old paper records are still around does not mean they are legible!
We recently completed a project for a customer and noticed that an old logbook from the 1970s had records that were so faded that our high quality scanners could not make out the writing. Upon closer inspection, even to the naked eye much of the record was completely faded and illegible. We ultimately devised a solution to capture an image of the record that provided the best resolution, but we hope this can be a lesson learned the easy way for others.
